We want to be prepared for a growing number of infections, flatten the curve. We can’t afford loosening up. Whether we will be able to go back to economic normality depends on the next two weeks, or possibly a longer time – says Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, announcing further restrictions.

New: 9. April Coronavirus in Poland: Continuation of restrictions, mandatory masks

The main rule – avoid contacts with people. There will be additional fines for those who notoriously break the bans – fines imposed by court (now 5-30 thousand PLN) – announces Prime Minister.

New decisions and restrictions from April 1

Social distance: 2 metres from another person, excluding taking care of children under 13 y.o., or disabled people during walks.

  • Children and adolescents under 18 y.o. cannot go out unsupervised.
  • You cannot go out unless it is needed to: commute, volunteer in COVID-19 related cause, manage essential daily life tasks (necessary shopping, pharmacy, doctor appointment, taking care of relatives, walking the dog).
  • It is prohibited to use green areas, parks, beaches, boulevards, promenades and city bikes.
  • Public institutions work remotely, with an exception of tasks in which remote work doesn’t guarantee the possibility to perform key duties.
  • The number of passengers limited also in vehicles 9+ (from April 2, 2020)
  • Rehabilitation activities suspended; beauty and hair salons closed

In public transport there is already a rule that the number of passengers is limited to half the number of seats in a vehicle. This requirement is extended to vehicles which have more than 9 seats, including non-public transport – for example, private carriers or vehicles used for commute in an organized way.

EXAMPLE: If there are 20 seats on the bus, at one time there can be maximum 10 people on it.

  • Additional precautions for employees: the distance between working places should be at least 1,5 metres; gloves and access to sanitizers are mandatory. Important! Effective from April 2, 2020.

Shops and service points

    • In every shop (small, large, service point) the maximum number of people who enter is the product of all cash desks and the number 3. Important! The whole number of cash desks is relevant, not the open ones. (5 cash desks = 15 people)
    • Marketplaces – 3 customers per 1 service point
    • Post offices – 2 people per one counter (5 counters = 10 people)
    • Large building markets will be closed on weekends
    • Shopping in single-use gloves from April 2
    • Between 10.00 and 12.00 shops and service points only for people above 65 years old

Hotels and other accommodation places closed

The facilities can only function if there are quarantined or isolated people inside, or if inside there is medical personnel. Important! Guests residing in the facilities when the new legislation enters into force need to check out until Thursday, April 2, 2020.

This does not apply to people who are in delegation and are using the accommodation facilities as part of performing official duties. For these people the hotels remain open.

Quarantine

  • Automatic quarantine for relatives in quarantine (April 1,2020)
  • The quarantine applies to everyone residing with the person sent to quarantine.

EXAMPLE: If one of your household members (flatmates) will be quarantined from April 1, 2020 because of coming back from abroad, or direct contact with an infected person – you also need to stay in quarantine.
